Tomsk Polytechnic University is one of 20 centers in Russia to attract and train volunteers for the World Festival of Youth and Students Sochi 2017. WFYS 2017 will be attended by 20,000 young students from 150 countries. The TPU Volunteer Center is a single one in Tomsk and one out of two in the Siberian Federal District.
“Indeed, the criteria for establishing volunteer centers were based on profound volunteering experience and engagement in large sports and other events.
Participation of TPU volunteers in 2014 Winter Olympics and Universiade played its role,”
said the head of the Directorate for Volunteers Anna Zakhmatova at the opening ceremony. - Tomsk Polytechnic University was actively engaged in the preparation and we hope the volunteers will be active too.”
Anna Zakhmatova and TPU Vice-Rector for General Issues Maxim Vedyashkin signed an agreement regarding the Tomsk center. Polytechnicers presented a gift symbolizing a Festival’s logotype 3D-printed at the university.
“The agreement makes it possible supervise the work of volunteers. A quota of our volunteer center amounts to 200 people, 50 people out of them are residents from the Tomsk region.
Applications are available to fill in at the Festival website until 31 March, training will take 2 months, - told the Director of the TPU Center for Volunteer Services and Social Activity Natalia Ushakova. – Training is free of charge. Volunteers are not paid, the Festival volunteers will be provided with accommodation in Sochi, meals, personal uniform and souvenirs.”
TPU-based registration to volunteers is open for both Tomsk Polytechnic University’s students and Tomsk residents, as well as anyone, aged 18 and over from neighboring Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions, the Republic of Altai and Altai territory.
The organizers also invite “silver” participants (former participants of the Festival 1957 and 1985 in Russia – ed.). The volunteers will be appointed in April-May, training starts in June.
