The 16th meeting of the International Scientific Council of Tomsk Polytechnic University was held in St. Petersburg this week. The world-famous scientists discussed the prospects of the University development for the coming years.
Traditionally the ISC meeting is chaired by Dan Shechtman, Head of the International Scientific Council, Professor of the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry 2011.
During two days, the Council members considered the most pressing issues of current development of Tomsk Polytechnic University. TPU rector Petr Chubik presented the development program for 2019-2023 to the ISC.
The scientists from Israel, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, and Canada listened to the director of the School of Core Engineering Education Denis Chaykovskiy on how to produce specialists with profound basic engineering knowledge and skills within two years. The Deputy Vice-Rector for Research and Innovations Roman Ostvald presented the Council a newly adopted TPU system for scientific degree conferment.
The International Scientific Council includes Prof Dan Shechtman, the ISC chairman, Prof Konrad Osterwalder (Switzerland), Prof Horst Hippler (Germany), Prof Manfred Horvat (Austria), Prof Tilo Baumbach (Germany), Elazar Gutmanas (Israel), and Prof Istvan Hargittai (Hungary).
