Russian International Affairs Council: English version of TPU website shows growing dynamics

On 23 October 2018, within the 9th International Russian Conference of Higher Education Researchers (HEdR Conference) Universities in Search of Balance between New and Old Goals the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) made a report on the Electronic Internalization: English Internet Resources of Russian Universities (2017-2018). The English version of the TPU website shows one of the best growth dynamics in the university website rating. An upgraded English website was launched in early 2017. The website structure was completely redesigned in accordance with the needs and features of the target English-speaking audience. After launching the website international students actively took part in testing. They noted how easy it was to find some information on the website and operate with particular sections.

According to the monitoring results of the English version websites of the Russian universities carried out by RIAC experts, the TPU website takes the fourth place, having gained the equal scores with Skoltech – 75 scores. Last year TPU took the eighth position in the rating.

In addition, at the conference RIAC Program director Ivan Timofeev presented results of the new stage of the survey of English web resources and social media accounts of 65 Russian universities, an upgraded rating of the Russian universities’ websites in English, as well as the analysis of common problems and recommendations for the development of the web resources in English.

In the survey, it is also mentioned that Tomsk Polytechnic University retains its position in the leading group of the university English websites, showing sustainable dynamics.

‘Positions of universities in Tomsk deserved special attention. Having gained additional 12 scores, Tomsk Polytechnic University rose from the eighth place to fourth,’

it was said in the report of Ivan Timofeev. The content and the structure of the TPU English website are based on the feedback and requirements of international students and partner universities. Especially for this, the Internet Communications Office together with the Office for International Recruiting and Adaptation of TPU designed a questionnaire that allows identifying the information needs of international students, as well as adjusting the activities of international Internet promotion.
