A senior trainer teacher from the Division for Physical Education, a multiple Europe’s and world’s weight-lifting champion, a TPU alumna Anastasia Zolotareva will be the first torchbearer of the torch relay of the 29th Winter Universiade, to be held in Tomsk.
Tomsk will host the torch relay already this Saturday, 15 December. 26 torchbearers will carry the fire of World Student Games along Tomsk streets. Among them are the representatives of Tomsk Polytechnic University Dmitri Zhurman, Anastasia Zolotareva, and Sergey Korshunov.
In addition, on the route of the torch relay there will be six sites where the presentations of Tomsk universities to be held. TPU site will be located nearby the main building of the University, at 30 Lenin Ave. Volunteers will also work along the relay route the oldest of whose is 76-year-old TPU alumnus Viktor I. Pakulev.
The press office of the Tomsk Oblast Administration informs:
‘The first torchbearer will become TPU alumna, multiple champion of Europe and the world on weight-lifting Anastasia Zolotareva. Master of sports of international class in speed skating Aleksandra Kachurkina will bring the torch of the 2019 Winter Universiade to the finish line.’
The meeting of the fire and the start of the running round will be held at the central alley of Lagerny Sad at 18:00. The site will be open at 17:30. Torchbearers will pass the fire to each other along Lenin Avenue, making stops at the locations of the Tomsk universities.
Deputy Governor for Internal Policy Sergey Il’inykh notes:
‘The fire relay of Winter Universiade is of special significance for the Tomsk Oblast, since Tomsk is a student capital of Russia. Our round of the fire relay is as much as possible related to sports, i.e. 15 our torchbearers are or were engaged in sports professionally.’
