The VII International Engineering Championship CASE-IN will be launched on February 25 at Tomsk Polytechnic University. It will be devoted to Digital Transformation. Students will compete in six areas: exploration, mining, metallurgy, petroleum engineering, petrochemistry, and electric and power engineering.
Along with the opening of the new championship season TPU will host the qualifying stages for geological exploration, metallurgy, petrochemistry, and electric and power engineering. For example, the case on geological exploration will cover exploration within the Zarnitsa kimberlite pipe located in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia, Russia). In 1954, the first primary diamond deposit in the country was discovered there. The case was designed using materials and in collaboration with specialists from PJSC ALROSA (Russian group of diamond mining companies).
The main problem of the case on metallurgy is to the wear of work rolls of hot finishing stands while rolling sheet steel. The case was designed using materials and in collaboration with specialists of PJSC Novolipetsk Metallurgical Combine.
The case on petroleum engineering will deal with SIBUR Tobolsk LLC and Voronezhsintezkauchuk JSC (Russian petrochemical companies). The case was developed based on materials and jointly with experts of PJSC SIBUR Holding.
It is worth noting that the participants of the case on electric and power engineering, depending on universities, solve one of two engineering cases. At TPU, it will be a case dedicated to the development of a monitoring system of transitional regimes within the Russian System Operator of the Unified Power System.
Besides, the participants of the League of Young Specialists, which opening will be hosted at TPU as well, will design digital integration of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects in the Russian Far East as the macroregional system in the Asia-Pacific region.
"For the second year in a row, a special award dedicated to energy efficiency - The Best Solution in Energy Efficiency - will be awarded within the CASE-IN championship . At the initiative of the CASE-IN title partner - Transneftenergo company, each case includes a task to assess the impact of proposed solution on energy efficiency of the primary process and to calculate the savings", - underlines Sergey Emelyanov, CEO of Transneftenergo.
CASE-IN is an international competition, dedicated to engineering cases among students, schoolchildren and young professionals. The main goal of the championship is to popularize engineering and technical education and to attract the most promising young specialists to Fuel & Energy Complex and the Mineral Resources Sector.
The Student League of the championship is a scientific and practical competition, consisting of face-to-face and remote stages, hosted by universities. The League of Young Professionals includes five face-to-face qualifying rounds that take place in different geographical areas. The final stages are held in Moscow.
The championship is organized by the Nadezhnaya Smena Fund, Non-Profit Partnership the Youth Forum of Mining Leaders, and AstraLogika LLC.
