A delegation of the Japanese corporation Mitutoyo, a world leader specializing in high-precision measuring equipment, visited Tomsk Polytechnic University. The administration of Mitutoyo RUS LLC suggested establishing a TPU-based shared knowledge center for measuring devices and equipment for industrial enterprises of the Tomsk Oblast. The center is expected to open at the University this year.
During the visit, the Mitutoyo delegation looked around the laboratories of TPU Science Park, presented its achievements in measuring equipment, and discussed cooperation prospects with TPU administration. The priority issue of cooperation was the establishment of a shared knowledge center for measuring industrial equipment on the basis of the University.
Director General of Mitutoyo RUS LLC Alexander Litinsky notes:
‘Over the years, TPU has developed an image of one of the advanced centers of science and applied research in different industries. That is why our company is seeking to open a shared knowledge center for measuring devices and equipment right here.’
The center will focus on a number of tasks that involve, in particular, providing enterprises access to modern high-precision measuring equipment, improving the quality of products released by companies in Tomsk and Tomsk Oblast, as well as carrying out R & D in applied metrology.
Research engineer Artem Babaev, PhD, from TPU Laboratory for Industrial Robotics says:
‘This meeting at the Laboratory for Industrial Robotics allowed us to find contact points between TPU and Mitutoyo in using industrial manipulators. They will help in manufacturing robotized cells that will be able to conduct mechanical processing and subsequent measurement of geometrical characteristics without removing workpieces from the robot.’
The Shared Knowledge Center for Measuring Equipment is expected in TPU Science Park by the fall of 2019.
