On 23 April 2019, a festival of Indian culture will be held at Tomsk Polytechnic University. The program includes traditional dances and songs, hits of modern Indian cinema, a fashion show and a tea party with Indian sweets.
The festival will be held as a part of the Days of National Cultures at TPU. Indian students from Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk State University, Siberian State Medical University, and high school children from Zaozernaya secondary school No.19 will participate in the event.
The festival will be at the TPU International Culture Center (13v Usova St.) from 18:00 to 19:30. Entrance is free for everyone.
International students prepared a diverse and interesting program for the guests of the festival. They will learn about three of the most important Indian holidays: Holi (a festival of colors), Diwali (a festival of light), and Pongal (the harvest festival), listen to traditional and modern songs, see dancing performances.
The organizers also invited some guests who are students from Indonesia, the Indidance studio of modern Indian dances, the Bharata studio of Indian dances, sculptor Leonty Usov, the Chandrasuriya studio of Indian dances.
‘In addition, spectators will see a laser show, a traditional dance Bharatnatyam based on the mythical legends and spiritual ideas from the Hindu text, hear a Russia-Indian song,’ say the organizers.
Tomsk residents and guests will get familiar with the modern culture of India: Bollywood-style performances, a hit Tum hi ho from the movie Life for Love-2, which became very popular with listeners from all over the world. Students from India and Indonesia teamed up to show a colorful fashion show in national costumes.
