Petr Chubik: ‘Memory eternal to TPU fellows who went through the war, returned home with the victory and created everything that we are proud of today’

Acting Rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University Petr Chubik congratulates the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, war workers, and TPU fellows on Victory Day.

‘Dear veterans of the Great Patriotic War and war workers. Dear TPU fellows! My congratulations to you on the 74th anniversary of the Great Victory!

The times have changed, the ages have passed away but the Great Patriotic War remains the main and the most terrible event of the twentieth century, having changed the fate of all humanity. Victory Day, being a symbol of the unprecedented feat of our fathers and grandfathers who excluded the power of apparently invincible German Nazism,  has come to our land for the 74th time. The most heroic, holy and, at the same time, the closest and dearest day for us is the 9th of May…

The history of the Great War has inscribed forever the names of 205 students and fellows of our university, who remained on the battlefield. They did not become what they wanted to be. However, they entered immortality, having become heroes.

Eternal glory to the fallen for the freedom and independence of our Motherland! Eternal memory to TPU fellows who passed the war, returned home with the glorious victory, created everything that we are proud of today, but did not live to see the present day. The legendary post-war generation of TPU scientists, who gave life to betatrons, a research nuclear reactor, the Sirius synchrotron, the Tomsk television, bequeathed us to live and to win. The will is being fulfilled – we study and work at one of the best technical universities in Russian and the world!

Medals for battle and medals for labor are made out of one metal. We paid tribute to all those who forged the victory in the rear. For the childhood stolen by the war and the rough youth, overcoming the unthinkable, the hardest trials that fell to their lot. At the holy place for us, at the foot of the monument to the participants of the Great Patriotic War and workers of the rear, which we reconstructed for the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, we will bow our heads. Under the solemnly mournful sounds of the metronome, everyone will hear the beat of their heart…

Dear veterans! You are for us a living symbol of the Great War! An example of how to live without fear and reproach, honestly and vividly. Even today, we learn courage from you, the ways of overcoming difficulties, and the ability to love life and protect our land in any circumstances.

Thank you for the feat of arms and selfless service to Tomsk Polytechnic University! Our obeisance for the truth and memory that are much more valuable than money, and needed much more than bread… we are proud of you and will do our best so that no one can ever question the significance of the Great victory for world history, our Fatherland, and each of us. This is our holy duty before those who died in the name of life.

Happy Victory Day, dear TPU fellows! Peaceful skies to you, happiness, joy, and goodness!’
