The master’s students of the Satbayev Kazakh National Technical University do their internship at Tomsk Polytechnic University. They are specialists of Kazatomprom, the national nuclear operator of Kazakhstan and the major producer of natural uranium. At TPU, they will study the geology of uranium deposits for the next two weeks.
«13 specialists were selected for training in Geology and Mineral Exploration.
In their research papers, they should propose innovative solutions for each operating mine to cut the mining cost by a dollar at least”,
— says Egor Yazikov, a professor of the TPU School of Natural Resources.
He added that for the next two week, the graduates would study the geology of uranium deposits at the Uranium Geology Research Center – as well as professional literature using the library resources. They will study the mineralogy of uranium and rare elements, the classification and industrial genetic types, modern methods of research of the matter, and forecasting, prospecting and exploration issues.
For a long time, TPU has trained specialists for nuclear and mining-and-metallurgical industries of Kazakhstan, implementing joint educational programs and R&D projects.
“Here, we would like to receive more information about new technologies and materials studies. We have come for advanced knowledge in uranium geology”, - says Ruslan Zhandenov, a geotechnical engineer of a Kazatomprom mine.
The master’s students have already visited the Alley of Geologists and the 1st building, where there are the memorial plaque and the office named after Kamysh Satbayev, the first president of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences. They also were presented the TPU achievements in the field of agrobiophotonics and water purification.
Kazatomprom is the national operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the import-export of uranium, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants.
