Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University jointly with Chinese and German universities developed a new type of nanowire, which can be used for producing unique transparent electrodes for flexible electronics and solar energy industry. The scientists shared the study experience with the RIA Novosti agency. The project results were published in the magazine Nanomaterials.
Flexible nanowire electrodes are the grids with transparency of 95% comparable to the transparency of window glass. Compared to other silver nanowire electrodes, they have higher conductivity. The key characteristics that provide the transparency level are smoothness of this nanowire and the diameter-to-length. Varying the ion concentration in the solution during the synthesis, the researchers managed to obtain a nanowire with a ratio of 1/3100, which is over 1.5 times higher than the best analogs.
The researchers highlight that the elements based on this type of wire are in demand in modern optoelectronics. Transparent electrodes are needed to improve the energy efficiency of solar panels, displays, and LEDs. These elements have the crucial properties to create high-quality flexible electronics.

The studies were carried out jointly with scientists from the University of Electronic Sciences and Technology of China (Chengdu, PRC) and the Chemnitz University of Technology (Chemnitz, Germany).
Flexible electronics are being actively developed worldwide. It is characterized by both advanced functionality and the potentially low production cost. This is achieved through the use of additive technologies.
