TPU International Students Recite Russian Poems

From December 7 to 16, Tomsk Polytechnic University will hold the Decade of the Russian Language and Culture. Within this annual event, over 50 international students of TPU and other universities, as well Tomsk schoolchildren and kindergarten students will compete in reciting their favourite poems of Russian poets and in singing songs of Russian musicians. Moreover, they will attend Russian language and literature workshops.

The Decade of the Russian Language and Culture is a traditional annual event held by the Division for Russian Language of TPU. Its goal is to identify and support international and Russian students and schoolchildren, to demonstrate their achievements in learning the Russian language and culture.

“This year, it is already the 16th Decade of the Russian Language and Culture. For the first time it is held online and devoted to a particular theme “New Year Pandemic Masquerade”. The poems and songs submitted to the thematic competition must fit in the theme.

Unfortunately, the large closing concert will not be held at the International Culture Center this year. Today, human health is a priority, of course,” Marina Bokhonnaya, Associate Professor of the Division for Russian Language, the Decade organiser tells.

About 50 students of Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk State University, Tomsk State Pedagogical University, Tomsk State University of Architecture and Construction from China, Indonesia, Hungary, Vietnam, Laos, Mongolia, Zambia, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, as well as Tomsk schoolchildren and kindergarten students will take part in creative competitions.

The event program of the Decade also includes workshops on Russian language norms and linguistic rules of the university environment for TPU staff, a workshop on writing a term paper for Russian and international students, a literary salon, a free lecture course for foreigners living abroad who are not TPU students so far.

The results of the competitions will be announced on December 16.
