Tomsk Polytechnic University has entered TOP-100 world’s best universities of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. In comparison with the last year, TPU improved its rank, ranking 96th instead of 101-200th.
The ranking assesses the contribution of universities against 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are No Poverty, Zero Hungry, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Life Below Water, Life on Land, and others.
TPU is included in the rankings for five SDGs: Quality Education, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Partnerships for the Goals.
The Impact Rankings 2021: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure is compiled on four indicators: institution’s research on industry and innovation, a number of patents, spin-off companies and research income from industry.
TPU remains 401-600th in the 2021 Impact Rankings. Moreover, the number of the presented universities increased from 768 in 2020 to 1,115 in 2021.
In total, there were considered over 1,200 universities from 98 countries for participation in the overall ranking. Russia is the most-represented nation with 86 institutions, 75 Russian universities entered the 2021 Impact Rankings. The overall ranking is led by a UK university for the first time: the University of Manchester.
