TPU scientists have studied unusual optical phenomena in dielectric particle rotation

Scientists of the School of Non-Destructive Testing of Tomsk Polytechnic University together with colleagues from Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology (China) have for the first time studied the process of creation of superstrong magnetic fields inside a dielectric sphere during its rotation. Previously, similar optical processes had only been studied with dielectrics in a static position. The results show that the rotation rate leads to the asymmetry of the system. This opens up new possibilities for the formation of a photonic hook - a curved beam with a specific shape. The fundamental data obtained have broad prospects for applications ranging from the manipulation of nanoparticles to the creation of controlled resonators and planetary exploration.
