Russian scientists have proposed to extinguish fires using a gas hydrate fire extinguisher

Scientists of the Heat and Mass Transfer Laboratory of Tomsk Polytechnic University, supported by the Priority 2030 Federal Program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, have developed and tested a new method of using a self-activating fire extinguisher based on gas hydrate. The "fire extinguisher" created by TPU scientists stops the burning due to the shock wave that occurs when the hydrate system explodes. After that, the ice shell reduces the temperature in the combustion hearth, and inert gas displaces oxygen from the combustion zone.
