TPU chemists propose method to modify skeleton of monosaccharide molecules using light
Researchers from TPU, in collaboration with their international counterparts, have successfully engineered a technology that facilitates the simultaneous modification of the molecular structure of simple sugars, thereby transforming them into non-typical carbohydrates. It has been established that this type of carbohydrates is frequently found as metabolites in bacteria but not in mammalian organisms. This observation suggests the potential for developing low-toxicity pharmaceuticals derived from such substances.
