Ghana's Ambassador to Russia Congratulates International Nuclear Graduates of Tomsk Polytech

A commencement ceremony for graduates of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering was held at Tomsk Polytechnic University. Among others, diplomas were awarded to graduates from Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan, Indonesia, India, Egypt and Kazakhstan, who completed the programs of the TPU Research Center for International Nuclear Education and Career Support for International Students, and to students of Jilin University, who completed the double diploma program at Tomsk Polytech.

Ms. Lesley Akua Akyaa Opoku-Ware, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to the Russian Federation took part in the ceremony. Notably, it was her first visit to Tomsk.

It is a great honor for me to have been invited to this event by the rector and the university management. I am delighted to see so many talented young people here today and pleased to know that the fate of the world will be in good hands, especially now, when the development of nuclear power is much talked about. It is also encouraging that graduates from Tomsk, a city that brings together people from all over the world, will take part in the development of future technologies. I extend my deepest congratulations to today's graduates. I also thank your families for supporting you in your endeavor to study so far away from home. Today, the entire world is open to you and our countries are expecting new achievements from you. So, embark on a new life, use the potential built up during your studies for the good!

— said the Ambassador

During her visit to Tomsk Polytech, Ms. Ambassador also attended a roundtable discussion of Ghanaian students from TPU, TSU and SibMed, had a meeting with the university administration, and visited academic and research laboratories of the TPU School of Nuclear Science and Engineering.

"As an alumnus of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, I am particularly delighted to be here to award diplomas and well-deserved honors to a new generation of nuclear engineering students. In total, for over 70 years of its history, more than 12,000 nuclear engineering students have graduated from TPU. Most of them successfully found employment at Rosatom divisions and various sectors of the national economy in Russia and throughout the world. Seven out of 11 operating nuclear power plants are headed by our graduates. Just a few months ago, our alumnus was appointed Director of Rosenergoatom. Our university, our graduates, professors and scientists have made a significant contribution to the development of nuclear energy, to the creation of Russia's nuclear shield, to the development of peaceful nuclear technologies. I am especially delighted and proud that thanks to proactive and committed people and Rosatom State Corporation, we have advanced beyond the borders of Russia. Our international nuclear education is considerably growing, developing and strengthening with graduates from more than 20 countries already in our family. I sincerely hope that they, as well as all of you who are in this hall today, will soon be heading nuclear power plants, peaceful atom centers, and nuclear medicine centers in your countries. With our efforts and actions, we will prove the words: "I am Phystech, we are Phystech, Phystech is the best people in the country!", - Leonid Sukhikh, Acting Rector of Tomsk Polytech, addressed the graduates.

Tomsk Polytechnic University is a backbone university for Rosatom State Corporation, while Rosatom is one of TPU's key strategic partners. The university produces sought-after and highly qualified personnel for Rosatom and its overseas projects in partner countries.

"You are now members of a big family. I believe that you should appreciate your university, appreciate your status of TPU alumni, appreciate the fact that you are becoming professionals, you are future nuclear engineers, you will contribute to the development of the nuclear industry and your countries. The fact that you graduated from Tomsk Polytechnic University will be of great help to you. I wish you success," Valery Karezin, Director of the Project Office for Education Development and International Cooperation at Rosatom State Corporation, congratulated the graduates.

In 2015, TPU launched its first international nuclear master's program. Today, the university offers a full range of educational programs in nuclear power engineering and nuclear medicine for international students from partner countries of Rosatom, including undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and advanced education programs. In total, more than 150 people have already completed these programs.

The students enrolled in international nuclear programs span more than 20 countries, including Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Iran, Egypt, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Sudan, Ghana, Nigeria, Serbia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Cambodia, Senegal and others
