Over 300 Internationals Become Participants of Anniversary Events of TPU Division for Russian Language

From March 14 to 25, a series of lectures, demo lessons and workshops entitled 50 Shades of Russian were conducted within anniversary events of the TPU Division for Russian Language. The Department staff held 50 events in the online mode where they shared their experience in teaching Russian, training international students, giving advanced training courses, arranging scientific seminars, presentations and international clubs. 

Over 300 people among whom there were representatives of Russia, Belarus, Mongolia, China, Algeria, Vietnam, Italy, Brazil, Great Britain, Turkey, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Bolivia and other countries became participants of the events. 

In the given online lessons, they got familiar with Siberia, Tomsk and TPU, learned more about Russian traditions and holidays, features of communication in Russian at informal and formal events, reviewed cases and verbs of motion, discussed the ways of appearance and character description, aspects of professional communication, as well as got acquainted with a mode and content of exams on Russian as a Foreign Language. 

“For postgraduates and young scientists, we held a module of lectures and demo classes. The given lectures and classes were dedicated to metaphorical terms, a semantic field of temporality in Russian, Russian professional discourses in aspects of hybridisation and writing research articles,”

says Eugenia Sherina, head of the TPU Division for Russian Language. 

Besides students and international attendees, professors from Grodno (Belarus), Tomsk, Kaluga, Kazan, Pyatigorsk and Kemerovo attended the anniversary events oriented on professors of Russian. For them, the staff of the TPU Division for Russian Language and TPU Pre-University Department prepared a presentation on the TPU case of integration and adaptation of international students. The professors of Russian universities learned about online projects implemented by the TPU Division for Russian Language, distinguished features of training international students from different countries, including training for professional purposes, teaching methods of training internationals listening, writing and speaking. 

All the interested participants could also learn tips for overcoming language barriers in communication, features of digital etiquette, spelling difficulties and solving tasks of the Unified State Exam on Russian. 

“A series of events ‘50 Shades of Russian’ is the beginning of our Departments’ anniversary celebration. We are looking forward to the annual international conference for international students, all-Russian round table on the best practices of Russian pre-university departments and festive events with the appreciation of honored staff and students.
