TPU researchers develop a new type of insulation for high-voltage systems
Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University, together with their colleagues from Saratov, have developed a new composite made of silicone, ceramic fillers and glycerin for insulation of cable fittings, live parts and electrodes in high-voltage systems. The new material has a high dielectric capacity, which is important for the electric power industry and opens up new prospects for the implementation of electric discharge technologies. They can provide cheaper drilling of deep wells in rock formations, extraction of minerals, and destruction of concrete and reinforced concrete when dismantling large structures as compared to mechanical methods.
