TPU Facilitates Temporary Residence Permit Procedure for Internationals

The changes apply to international students from near and far abroad countries. Now, a temporary residence permit will be granted for the entire period of study. Consequently, the students, for example, will be able to get a health insurance policy or apply for permanent residence without leaving Russia.

The new regulations apply to international full-time students of all Russian universities enrolled in bachelor's, specialist's, master's and postgraduate programs.

The federal law regulating the legal status of foreign nationals introduces a new document for international students, namely a temporary residence permit for educational purposes. It permits students to stay and study in Russia during the entire period of study and for 180 more days after graduation, given that the permit was issued prior to graduation. In this case, they will get a stamp in their passport certifying the issuance of a temporary residence permit for educational purposes. This permit can be obtained only in Tomsk that is in the region where the student’s university is located,

— Olga Nikiforova, director of TPU Center for Social Support and Educational Work, explains.
The new permit will allow international students, for example, to obtain a compulsory health insurance policy or apply for permanent residence without leaving Russia.
To apply for a new permit, students have to submit the required documents in person to the Passport and Visa Service (33 Proletarskaya St.). The service will be delivered within 38 working days.

To be included in the TPU list of applicants, students should contact the Center for Social Support and Educational Work (45 Lenin Ave., entrance from the avenue), Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 17pm (lunch break from 1pm to 2pm) and Friday, 2pm to 4pm.
