TPU scientists: graphene helps to improve properties of high refractive index dielectrics

Scientists from TPU's Engineering School of Non-Destructive Testing in collaboration with colleagues from Belarus have first proved that a photonic jet can be generated using high index dielectric particles. Previously, such process was deemed possible only for low refractive index particles. This effect can be achieved by depositing a graphene film on the surface of a dielectric sphere. Their interaction results in a Fano resonance, which increases the electromagnetic field behind the sphere. The control over this property of mesoparticles in the future will leverage the improved resolution in modern terahertz imaging systems.
