TPU scientists: natural biopolymer composite scaffolds to break new ground in bone regeneration

Scientists from TPU Research School of Chemistry and Applied Biomedical Sciences in collaboration with Russian and international colleagues have engineered composite scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration using piezoelectric biodegradable polymer polyhydroxybutyrate with composite magnetic nanofillers. The study showed that the scaffolds have a unique microfiber structure, electroactive and magnetic properties that accelerate the process of bone tissue regeneration. The composite scaffolds designed by the scientists were successfully tested in the treatment of femur bone defects in rats.
