TPU Senior Coach Becomes Winner of International Chess Tournament

Egor Pakhomov, a TPU senior coach and coach of the select chess team, has won the 2022 Leonid Yurtayev Cup international tournament that was held in Kyrgyzstan. Over 200 chess players from Russia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan took part in the tournament.

Egor Pakhomov, a TPU senior coach and coach of the select chess team, has won the 2022 Leonid Yurtayev Cup international tournament that was held in Kyrgyzstan. Over 200 chess players from Russia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan took part in the tournament.

The TPU coach represented the Tomsk Oblast chess team and played in the most titled Group A. During the tournament, he gave checkmate to two international Grandmasters, two international FIDE Masters and seven Masters of Sport in Chess.

“The feeling of winning is strong, I realized that I can still fight and win. I hope it will give me an emotional impetus for further development,”

says Egor Pakhomov, senior coach of the TPU Division for Physical Education.

During the tournament, Egor Pakhomov played in the leading group, before the last round he was the second in the table. The victory in the decisive game over the international Grandmaster from Uzbekistan made him the winner.
