TPU Swimming Team to Participate in International University Sports Festival

TPU athletes will participate in the International University Sports Festival for teams from BRICS, SCO and CIS states. It will bring together students from more than 30 countries.

The International University Sports Festival for university teams from BRICS, SCO and CIS member states is held in compliance with the Russian President's decree On the Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Physical Culture and Sports. In 2023, it will be the only major international sports event in the Russian Federation.

The competitions will be held on August 19-31 in Yekaterinburg. Students will compete in 14 sports, namely badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, volleyball, judo, mini-football, table tennis, swimming, diving, sambo, wrestling, tennis, taekwondo, rhythmic gymnastics. In total, 197 sets of medals will be contested for.

Tomsk Polytechnic University will be represented in the competition by the university's swimming team. It consists of Alexander Donela, Dinis Taibekov, Maxim Svaratsky, Ekaterina Zmeeva, and Nikita Yukhnevich. The students train under the guidance of Alexey Verkhozin, senior coach and teacher at the Division for Physical Education of Tomsk Polytechnic University. The TPU team will compete in all sports disciplines related to swimming, including relay races, sprints, middle-distance races,

The festival competitions will start on Saturday, August 19. The teams that have arrived in Ekaterinburg include students from Argentina, Brazil, Vietnam, India, China, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Mexico, Serbia, Turkey, Belarus and others.
