TPU will become a core provider of training for the Rwandan nuclear industry personnel

Tomsk Polytechnic University became the first Russian university to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rwanda Atomic Energy Council. The signing took place at the main event of the global nuclear industry - Atomexpo 2024 international forum.

Earlier, employees of Tomsk Polytechnic University gave a series of informational and popular science lectures on the possibilities of using nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes for the audience from Rwanda. Among the participants were representatives of universities, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Regulatory Authority and the National Atomic Agency of Rwanda.

"With the participation of ROSATOM, it is planned to establish a nuclear science and technology center in the Republic of Rwanda. Tomsk Polytechnic University, as the core university of Rosatom, has a successful experience in personnel training and development of methodological documentation under the state corporation's project for building a nuclear research and technology center in Bolivia. To date, about 40 future employees of the Center have studied and are studying at Tomsk Polytechnic University. The university has more than 70 years of experience in training the personnel for the Russian nuclear industry. In recent years, we have been actively developing international nuclear education programs in the interests of Rosatom's partner countries. This is made possible due to TPU's unique educational and research infrastructure - the only functioning training nuclear reactor in the country, a cyclotron, and projects related to nuclear medicine and betatrons. We are grateful to our partners for their trust and look forward to further effective cooperation," commented TPU Acting Rector Leonid Sukhikh.

On behalf of the Rwanda Atomic Energy Authority the memorandum was signed by Fidel Ndahayo, Director General.

Under the Memorandum, the parties plan to develop cooperation in education, training and research in nuclear physics and technology. The main areas of cooperation include the development of joint educational programs, the training of students from Rwandan universities in TPU's undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses, the organization of courses and seminars at the Atomic Energy Council, the arrangement of internships, and the active use of distance learning tools.
