The educational program in the specialty of Practice and Theory of Translation will now be five years long. To apply, candidates must pass entrance tests in English, Russian, and their choice of History, Social Studies, or Computer Science.
The program aims to train professional translators who can start a successful career in IT immediately after graduation. One of the unique features of the program is the opportunity to learn Chinese from scratch. Students learn vocabulary, characters, and work on correct pronunciation with a bilingual speech specialist. The English training focuses on expanding linguistic knowledge and maintaining a high professional level of the language. Both languages offer training in general translation skills, with a focus on written and oral proficiency. Senior courses include the special discipline of Translation in IT, as well as additional specialization modules such as Introduction to simultaneous translation, Computer-aided translation systems, Translation shorthand, Translation problems, and Translation project management.Recent market analysis has shown a significant increase in the number of Russian companies seeking employees with Chinese language skills. The most in-demand areas include information technology, customs clearance and international transportation, tourism, and teaching. The program aims to teach Chinese and English, as well as provide knowledge of information technology. It also aims to develop skills in creating, modifying, and using digital solutions for translation, that this is particularly relevant due to the increasing cooperation between Russia and China in various sectors,
During the training, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful career in the field of translation, including IT. Translation specialists will be able to perform written translation, interpreting, and simultaneous technical translation, edit written translations, work with modern automated translation programs, translation databases, and translation memory, and perform subtitling and voice-over tasks.
Currently, the Technical Translation program is tuition-based. However, there are plans to arrange state-funded spots in the future. Additionally, if there is enough demand, the program may open admission for foreign citizens.Tomsk Polytechnic University program offers the opportunity for internships at leading universities in China, providing an immersive environment for language learning.
