TPU and China University of Petroleum to train specialists in petroleum engineering and geology

A delegation of China University of Petroleum Karamay (CUPB - Karamay) paid a working visit to Tomsk Polytechnic University yesterday. The parties discussed further scientific and educational cooperation, in particular, the development of joint programs for the preparation of undergraduates and graduates. 

The representatives of the Chinese university were presented some educational opportunities and innovative developments of TPU. They also visited the laboratories of the School of Earth Sciences & Engineering and the School of Computer Science & Robotics.

TPU Vice-Rector for External Affairs Lilia Kiriyanova says:

‘The leading Chinese university and TPU will educate world-class specialists in petroleum engineering and geology. In the short-term, we have a common task to launch academic exchange programs for   undergraduate and graduate courses.’

The delegation of the China University of Petroleum Karamay included Vice President of CUPB, Principal of CUPB-Karamay Campus Chen Daen, Dean, Faculty of Science & Arts Zhang Yi, Director, Department of Teaching and International Affairs, Karamay Campus Yang Jieping, and International Coordinator, CUPB-Karamay Campus Xu Xiaofang.


The China University of Petroleum was formed as a result of merging the respective departments of Tsinghua University, Peking University and Tianjin University in 1953, thus becoming the first specialized petroleum university in the PRC.

Known in the world for creating world-class disciplines: oil and gas studies and mineral resources and geology.
