On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Tomsk Polytechnic University, on Novo-Sobornaya Square, there will be arranged a 125 Years of TPU photo exhibition devoted to the university history, its famous graduates and achievements.
On May 11, on the day of the anniversary, Andrey Yakovlev, Acting Rector of TPU, Mikhail Ratner, Acting Mayor of Tomsk and Chingis Akataev, Chairman of the Tomsk City Duma, see the exhibition at 09.30.
Guests will become familiar with the foundation history of TPU from the moment when Count Sergey Witte, Minister of Finance of the Russian Empire, allocated the money for the construction, as well as will see copies of historic documents and archive photos of the university buildings.
The outdoors exhibition will tell about outstanding TPU scientists, their ideas and inventions, the TPU role in the technological and economic development of Tomsk, the Tomsk Region and Russia as well.
Tomsk Polytechnic University is the oldest technical university in Asian Russia. It was founded as Tomsk Technological Institute of Emperor Nicholas II in 1896. It remained the only technical higher education institution east of the Urals for a long time. In May 2021, TPU celebrates its 125th anniversary.
